In this joyous, heart-warming indie comedy, one-time musician Frank (Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation, The Little Hours) forms an unlikely band with his daughter Sam (Kiersey Clemons, Dope) before she leaves for college.
Single dad Frank runs a struggling old-school record store in Red Hook, Brooklyn, which he’s about to lose, despite the support of his love interest landlord Leslie (Toni Collette). All Frank really wants to do is reconnect with his musically-gifted yet serious daughter, whose plans involve studying pre-med at a prestigious college – and definitely not writing music with her ageing hipster dad. Frank urges Sam to turn their weekly "jam sesh" into a father-daughter live act. After their first song becomes an Internet breakout, the two embark on a journey of love, growing up and musical discovery.
With an excellent supporting cast including Ted Danson, Sasha Lane and Blythe Danner, Hearts Beat Loud is an exuberant comedy stacked with great tunes.
“It’s really a film about love and acceptance, and creation. It’s all about the creative process. I think right now, people will enjoy the feeling that they will get from this movie.” – Brett Haley
